Political Developments in Tamil Nadu

In the midst of ongoing political activities surrounding the formation of the Tamil Nadu government, twenty-eight legislators from the AIADMK have been relocated to a private resort in Pudhucherry, located in Poornankuppam. These legislators are reportedly supporters of senior AIADMK leader C.V. Shanmugam. Meanwhile, Vijay, the leader of the Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), has garnered the backing of five Congress legislators, but he still requires six additional supporters to secure a majority in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

Governor's Request for Majority Proof

Earlier, Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar requested Vijay to provide proof of majority and a list of supporting legislators during a second round of discussions held in Chennai. The Governor sought clarity on the 'magic number' necessary for government formation and asked Vijay to detail the legislators backing TVK's claim to form the government.

Efforts to Secure Support for TVK

Efforts to gather support for TVK are ongoing. Reports indicate that discussions are taking place between senior party officials, including former Tamil Nadu minister and TVK candidate K.A. Sengottaiyan, and AIADMK leaders. Sources suggest that negotiations are underway regarding a potential power-sharing arrangement, which may involve granting C.V. Shanmugam the position of Deputy Chief Minister along with other significant ministerial roles.

Political Speculations Rise

Following the relocation of all 28 legislators to a private resort in Puducherry, political speculations have intensified. Reports suggest that AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has rejected support for TVK, leading to divisions within the party leadership. Some leaders, including C.V. Shanmugam and O.S. Manian, are in favor of supporting TVK in exchange for key roles in the proposed government.
