Political Leaders Condemn Bihar CM's Actions Against Muslim Woman
Controversy Surrounds Bihar CM's Actions
On Friday, Jiyau Rahman Bark, a member of the Samajwadi Party, expressed his dismay over an incident involving Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who removed a burqa from a female doctor's face. Bark labeled the event as unfortunate, highlighting that it is regrettable that there has been no public outcry against Kumar's actions. He pointed out that the Chief Minister has not even issued an apology for his behavior.
Bark further emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that it is alarming that no protests have emerged in response to the mistreatment of a Muslim woman. He criticized the lack of accountability, noting that neither an apology nor any corrective measures have been taken.
Earlier, Waris Pathan, the national spokesperson for the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), also condemned Kumar's actions. He described the hijab and burqa as symbols of women's dignity and respect, referring to them as 'crowns' for women. Pathan accused Kumar of disrespecting women's dignity and constitutional rights, demanding an unconditional apology from the Chief Minister for this blatant violation of women's honor and religious freedom.
Pathan reiterated that Article 25 of the Constitution guarantees the right to practice religion, while Article 19 ensures the freedom of choice. He asserted that anyone wishing to wear a burqa or hijab should be allowed to do so, a sentiment echoed by the Supreme Court. He called for strong condemnation of Kumar's actions, stating that even a father does not have the right to impose such actions. The hijab and burqa represent the honor and dignity of women, and it is unacceptable to demean them while claiming to uphold women's respect. Pathan insisted that Nitish Kumar must apologize to all women in the country without conditions, labeling the incident as a disgraceful affront to a woman's dignity.
