Controversial Remarks Ignite Political Tensions
The Chief Minister of Telangana, Revanth Reddy, has sparked significant political controversy both within the state and nationally due to his light-hearted comments regarding Hindus. He remarked that Hindus have a deity for every occasion during a Congress executive meeting, which provided an opportunity for the opposition BJP and its ideological ally, the RSS, to criticize him. The opposition has accused the Chief Minister of hurting Hindu sentiments.
In a video that surfaced online, Reddy questioned the number of gods in Hinduism, suggesting there are around three crore. He humorously noted that there is a god for those who are unmarried, another for those who marry twice, and even deities for those who drink alcohol or prefer different foods. His comments included references to various local deities, which he claimed cater to different preferences.
The backlash against Reddy's statements was swift, with the opposition labeling them as mockery of Hindu beliefs and traditions. Union Minister and former Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar condemned the remarks on social media, accusing the Congress party of harboring deep-seated animosity towards Hindus. In his post, he expressed strong disapproval of Reddy's comments, stating that the Congress has always been subservient to AIMIM and that Reddy's statements reveal a mindset that is hostile towards Hindus.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh also weighed in, asserting that the Congress party has launched a campaign against Hindus. He claimed that anyone making such statements does not believe in the Indian Constitution or its culture, suggesting that their sentiments are aligned with Mughal invaders. Singh urged Reddy to declare the Congress party as a Muslim League Congress.
