Political Fallout from Raj Singh's Arrest

A new political controversy has emerged following the arrest and subsequent release of Raj Singh, linked to the murder of Chandranath Rath, the personal assistant to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Manish Sisodia, a leader from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), criticized the BJP on social media, accusing them of misusing investigative agencies and questioning the handling of arrests in this case.

In his post, Sisodia asserted that Singh and his family are staunch supporters of the BJP. He suggested that they have likely endorsed police encounters, ED-CBI raids, and arrests in fabricated cases, applauding such actions. This, he claimed, has emboldened the BJP to arrest anyone at will, regardless of the allegations.

He further stated that had Singh not been released, the 'blind media' would have sensationalized any police shooting of the accused. Thankfully, he survived, or else the BJP's loyal media would have been clamoring nationwide about how the police eliminated the mastermind. The praise they were receiving could have turned into bullets in their own encounter.

Singh's release came after he alleged that he was wrongfully detained based on mistaken identity, claiming that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) later cleared him. Following his release, Singh spoke to a news agency, asserting that he was arrested while returning from Ayodhya with his mother and was pressured to confess to crimes he did not commit. He emphasized that he was misidentified as another Raj Kumar Singh and that the police ignored his explanations, threatening him with an encounter and coercing a confession.
