Political Controversy Arises Over TMC MLA's Claims About Lord Ram
Controversial Remarks by TMC MLA
A political uproar has erupted following the release of a video featuring Trinamool Congress (TMC) legislator Madan Mitra. In this footage, he asserts that Lord Ram was a Muslim. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reacted strongly, labeling the statement as an affront to Hinduism. During his speech delivered in Bengali, Mitra recited a Hindu verse and subsequently criticized the BJP's interpretation of Hindu beliefs. He clarified that his intention was not to target Hinduism but to question the BJP leadership's understanding of the religion.
BJP's Strong Response
BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari condemned Mitra's comments, stating that the TMC MLA's outrageous claim that 'Lord Ram was a Muslim, not a Hindu' is a deliberate insult to Hindu faith. He remarked that the TMC has resorted to daily attacks on Hindu beliefs. Referring to a personal incident, the Kamrathti MLA recounted challenging a senior BJP leader in Delhi to prove that Lord Ram was a Hindu.
Mitra's Challenge
Mitra recounted, "I told him to prove that Ram is a Hindu. Tell me Ram's surname." He noted that no one present could answer his question. He claimed that even BJP leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari, failed to respond. Furthermore, Mitra alleged that a Hindu sage informed him that Lord Ram's surname was 'Ramjetmalani,' which he mocked during his speech. He questioned, "Would any Hindu believe this? Would they worship by believing such claims?" He emphasized that his remarks were aimed at ridiculing the BJP's superficial understanding of Hinduism.
