Political and Religious Controversy Erupts Over Alleged Donations Theft at Ayodhya Ram Temple

The controversy regarding the alleged theft of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya is intensifying, sparking both political and religious disputes. While investigative agencies have ramped up their actions, various statements are also emerging. In this context, former minister and national general secretary of the Samajwadi Party, Swami Prasad Maurya, has made a controversial remark about Lord Ram, which has drawn sharp criticism from religious leaders.

Swami Prasad Maurya stated that if Lord Ram could not protect his own temple and donations, how could he safeguard others? He pointed out that theft had occurred in the temple and sanctum, with silver and gold missing, yet Lord Ram did not punish the thieves. This statement has led to significant outrage among religious organizations and the saint community. Mahant Raju Das of the renowned Shri Hanuman Garhi temple described Maurya's comments as unfortunate, asserting that the Ram Temple and Sanatan Dharma are being targeted. He reminded that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has already indicated that the truth will emerge after a fair investigation, urging people to remain patient. Raju Das expressed confidence that all involved in this matter would soon be apprehended, noting that eight arrests have already been made, with further actions expected against others implicated. He also appealed to the public not to politicize the issue.

In a direct attack on Maurya, Mahant Raju Das challenged him to make similar comments about other religions if he had the courage. He accused Maurya of specifically targeting Sanatan Dharma and Hindutva, as the Hindu community tends to remain peaceful. Raju Das emphasized that such statements hurt religious sentiments and called for the government to take strict action against Maurya.

It is worth noting that Swami Prasad Maurya has previously made several controversial statements attacking Sanatan Dharma and Hindu beliefs. He has referred to Hinduism as a deception that oppresses backward classes, Dalits, and women. Additionally, he has raised objections to certain verses of the Ramcharitmanas, further inciting anger among the saint community and Hindu organizations, leading to protests and legal actions against him.

Regarding the alleged theft of donations linked to the Ram Temple, eight individuals associated with the temple management have been arrested so far. Investigators have reportedly recovered around eighty lakh rupees from the homes of the accused. Meanwhile, Champat Rai, the general secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, and senior trust member Anil Mishra resigned from their positions on Friday. Although detailed official information has not been released, this development has escalated the seriousness of the situation.

The controversy began when Samajwadi Party leader Tej Narayan Pandey, also known as Pawan Pandey, alleged that five to seven and a half crore rupees in donations to the Ram Temple had been embezzled. He claimed there were significant irregularities in the donations received by the temple. Following these allegations, the issue quickly took on a political dimension.

In response to the allegations, the Uttar Pradesh government established a Special Investigation Team on June 13. This action was reportedly taken at the request of the temple trust to ensure an impartial investigation into the matter. Investigative agencies are actively questioning the accused and examining various aspects of the financial transactions involved.
