Political Maneuvering Intensifies in Maharashtra

As the 2026 municipal elections approach, political activities in Maharashtra are gaining momentum, with parties finalizing alliances and seat distributions. A significant development occurred today when Uddhav Thackeray, the leader of Shiv Sena (UBT), and Raj Thackeray, the head of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, officially announced their alliance for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. This marks the first collaboration between the two brothers in two decades, revealed during a joint press conference.

In another development, NCP leader Ajit Pawar convened a meeting with his legislators at his official residence, Devgiri Bungalow, at 7 PM. The NCP (SP) has requested 53 seats from Congress in Mumbai. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has cited recent local election successes and strong support in urban areas as reasons for the BJP's demand for 112 out of the 227 seats in Mumbai. Sources indicate that the BJP has offered 90 seats, but Shinde is insisting on more, warning that traditional Shiv Sena voters may opt for the BJP instead of the Thackeray factions.
