Tragic Shooting in Anantnag

On Wednesday, a police officer lost his life following an attack by suspected militants in Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir. The incident occurred around 12:30 PM at Lal Chowk in Anantnag city, where a police team was on duty. The deceased officer has been identified as Ashiq Hussain, a head constable from Beerwah in Budgam district. He was promptly transported to the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital in Anantnag, where he succumbed to his injuries.

In response to the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and initiated a large-scale search operation to locate the assailants. Additional troops have been deployed, and strict security measures remain in place as the operation continues. This incident comes at a time when heightened security arrangements are already in effect for the Amarnath Yatra, with security agencies closely monitoring the safety of thousands of pilgrims across Jammu and Kashmir.

Recently, security forces have intensified precautionary measures along the pilgrimage route. Earlier this month, Anantnag police apprehended a suspected 'Overground Worker' (OGW), identified through a facial recognition system (FRS) at the Nunwan base camp during security checks. Officials have highlighted this incident as an example of technology-based surveillance, which has strengthened the multi-layered security arrangements for the annual pilgrimage.
