Allegations of Long-Term Abuse in Thane District

In Thane district, Maharashtra, authorities have initiated legal proceedings against two brothers accused of sexually assaulting a woman for nearly seven years. This information was confirmed by a police official on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old housewife recently reached out to the police in New Delhi, where a 'Zero FIR' was registered. Subsequently, the case was transferred to the Bhivandi area's Bhoi Wada police station.

'Zero FIR' refers to a first information report that can be filed at any police station, regardless of whether the crime occurred within that station's jurisdiction. According to the official, the complainant, who currently resides in Najafgarh, was brought to Bhivandi by Sudip Upadhyay in 2018 under the pretext of furthering her education while she was still in the 10th grade.

The official stated that after her arrival, Sudip returned to his village, during which time his brother, Sandeep Upadhyay, allegedly raped her multiple times. When she informed Sudip about his brother's actions, he reportedly silenced her by promising to marry her.

The official further revealed that later on, Sudip allegedly coerced the complainant into having physical relations with him. The woman reported to the police that between 2018 and August 2025, both brothers subjected her to physical and mental torture at their residence in Bhivandi. It remains unclear how the victim reached New Delhi or when her marriage took place.

After obtaining the necessary documents, the Bhoi Wada police registered a case against both brothers on charges of rape and criminal intimidation under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and the Indian Penal Code on Tuesday. Assistant Police Inspector S.R. Patil stated that the investigation is ongoing.
