Police Conducts Verification Drive for Illegal Immigrants in Shamli District
Verification Campaign in Shamli District
In the town of Kairana, located in Shamli district, Uttar Pradesh, police have initiated a door-to-door verification campaign to identify illegal immigrants residing in the colony of Muzaffarnagar riot victims. Officials provided this update on Saturday.
The verification took place on Friday in Nahid Colony, which houses approximately 300 families displaced from villages such as Lank, Bahawadi, and Fugana during the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots.
During the verification process, police examined residents' Aadhaar cards, mobile numbers, and family details. Himanshu Kumar, the area officer of Kairana, informed reporters that the campaign aimed to identify Rohingya or Bangladeshi nationals, but no such individuals have been found so far.
A resident of the colony, Noor Hasan, mentioned that all families had previously submitted Special Intensive Review (SIR) forms to the Booth Level Officer (BLO) in Kairana.
Meanwhile, in the neighboring district of Muzaffarnagar, police have intensified their verification efforts in industrial areas, particularly focusing on workers employed in factories. Officials reported that area officer Siddharth Mishra stated that police teams have been checking the records of workers in various paper mills and steel factories. Factory owners have been instructed to maintain a register containing complete details of their workers.
This verification initiative is part of a broader effort aimed at ensuring proper documentation and identifying illegal immigrants. The riots in Muzaffarnagar in 2013 resulted in over 60 fatalities and displaced thousands, primarily from rural areas.
