Auraiya Police Arrest Three Members of a Theft Gang
Auraiya News: In a significant operation, law enforcement in Auraiya district, Uttar Pradesh, apprehended three suspects linked to a gang notorious for pickpocketing and thefts targeting pedestrians. The police seized two firearms, two live cartridges, three spent shells, three mobile phones, a motorcycle used in the crimes, and ₹16,000 in cash. During the police action, two of the suspects sustained gunshot wounds to their legs and were transported to a hospital for treatment.
The incident came to light when Alok Mishra, the Additional Superintendent of Police, revealed that on April 27, 2026, a victim named Gangacharan Rajput from Bandhamau filed a complaint at the Bidhuna police station. The victim reported that he had sought assistance from two young men on a motorcycle to reach Bidhuna. Instead, they took him for a ride and pickpocketed ₹50,000 from his pocket.
Suspects Attempt to Flee Upon Police Arrival
Following the complaint, a case was registered, and under the direction of the Superintendent of Police, three teams were formed. On May 2, 2026, the Bidhuna police, along with the SWAT team and surveillance unit, were conducting checks at the Auraiya-Kannauj border when they spotted three suspicious individuals on a motorcycle. When the police signaled them to stop, the suspects attempted to escape. Their motorcycle skidded and fell near the Gachharia bridge.
Two Thieves Arrested
Realizing they were cornered, the suspects opened fire on the police team. In the ensuing exchange, Jitendra alias Mota and Rajkumar Gihar were shot in the legs, while the third suspect, Pradeep Kanjhar, was apprehended at the scene. During interrogation, the suspects admitted to luring pedestrians under the pretense of asking for directions or requesting a lift, only to rob them in isolated areas. According to police reports, the arrested individuals are from Kannauj district and have multiple criminal cases registered against them in various police stations.
All three had previously faced action under the Gangster Act. The police have initiated proceedings to present the suspects in court and secure their incarceration.
