PM Modi Sets Record for Longest Tenure as Head of Government in India
Historic Achievement for Prime Minister Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the longest-serving head of government in India. He surpassed the previous record held by Pawan Kumar Chamling, the former Chief Minister of Sikkim, who served for 8,930 days. In total, Modi has completed 8,931 days when combining his tenures as Chief Minister of Gujarat and as Prime Minister.
During his time as Chief Minister, Modi also set the record for the longest-serving Chief Minister in Gujarat. Home Minister Amit Shah took to social media to celebrate this achievement, stating, 'Today, PM Modi has become the longest-serving head of government in India, breaking the record of 8,930 days set by former CM Pawan Kumar Chamling.'
Unprecedented Political Journey
Modi is the first non-Congress leader to secure a full majority in the Lok Sabha and has won three consecutive general elections in 2014, 2019, and 2024. His political career has seen him become the longest-serving Chief Minister of Gujarat and the Prime Minister with the most prior experience as a state leader.
Messages of congratulations have poured in from leaders of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners. Amit Shah remarked, 'Modi's decades of service have shaped an era. Whether it’s empowering the poor, setting new milestones in development, or enhancing the nation's pride on global platforms, the Modi era has transformed India completely.'

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated Modi on social media, highlighting that he has become the leader who has served as the head of government in India.
