PM Modi Launches Major Development Projects in Assam
Prime Minister Modi Unveils Development Initiatives
On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated various development projects worth over ₹4,570 crores and flagged off three new train services aimed at enhancing connectivity in Kokrajhar, Assam, and the northeastern region. The newly launched trains include the Kamakhya-Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express, Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri Express, and the Narangi-Agartala Express. This visit is part of a two-day trip to Assam ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
Due to adverse weather conditions preventing his visit to Kokrajhar, Modi conducted a virtual ground-breaking ceremony from Guwahati, laying the foundation for projects exceeding ₹4,570 crores.
Enhancing Connectivity and Infrastructure
The Kamakhya-Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express will provide direct rail connectivity between the northeastern and southern regions, while the Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri Express will enhance links between Assam and West Bengal. The Narangi-Agartala Express aims to improve travel between Assam and Tripura, facilitating interstate journeys for passengers, traders, and tourists. These initiatives are expected to alleviate traffic congestion in Kokrajhar district, located in the Bodoland Territorial Region, and enhance connectivity, tourism, agricultural access, healthcare, and rural mobility.
Strengthening Railway Infrastructure
Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation for a periodic maintenance workshop in Bashbari, Kokrajhar district, which will bolster railway maintenance infrastructure, improve operational efficiency, and create job opportunities in the region. Additionally, he virtually inaugurated the Assam Mala 3.0 project, a significant road infrastructure initiative costing over ₹3,200 crores. This project aims to construct more than 900 kilometers of roads across Assam to enhance interstate connectivity and strengthen the relationship between national highways and rural roads.
Investment in Road Infrastructure
The Prime Minister also performed the ground-breaking ceremony for six road infrastructure projects in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) area, which involve an investment of approximately ₹1,100 crores, including four flyovers and two bridges. On March 14, he is scheduled to dedicate various projects worth around ₹23,550 crores to the nation in Silchar. The assembly elections in Assam are anticipated next month, with the ruling BJP preparing to secure power for the third consecutive term.
