PM Modi Launches Development Projects in Sikkim's 50th Anniversary Celebration

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the 50th anniversary of Sikkim's statehood by launching development projects worth over ₹4,000 crores. These initiatives aim to enhance various sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, and tourism, reflecting the government's commitment to the region's growth. Modi criticized previous administrations for stalling progress and highlighted Sikkim's role in embodying national unity. He also promoted eco-wellness tourism and the state's natural beauty, inviting tourists to explore its renowned orchid gardens. This significant event underscores the government's dedication to sustainable development in Sikkim.
 

Celebrating 50 Years of Sikkim's Statehood

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the closing ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of Sikkim's statehood, where he inaugurated development projects exceeding ₹4,000 crores. Officials indicated that these initiatives span various sectors, including infrastructure, connectivity, healthcare, education, electricity, urban development, environment, tourism, and agriculture. The aim of these projects is to accelerate comprehensive and inclusive growth in Sikkim. This visit is seen as a significant milestone in the state's journey over the past five decades, reflecting the government's ongoing commitment to the rapid and sustainable development of this Himalayan region.


Commitment to Sikkim's Development

While addressing the audience at the celebration in Gangtok, the Prime Minister reiterated his government's unwavering dedication to the state's progress. He criticized the Congress party, claiming that it had previously stalled Sikkim's development projects.


He stated, "Sikkim has exemplified the vision of 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.' This event has brought the entirety of India before our eyes. Truly, you have won the hearts of everyone, not just Modi, but the entire nation. This is the true loyalty and patriotism towards India, which inspires a sense of nationalism in the new generation."


Promoting Eco-Wellness Tourism

The central government, along with PM Modi, is also promoting eco-wellness tourism while strengthening the region's infrastructure. Referring to Northeast India as the 'Ashtalakshmi' of the country, he emphasized that the government is working with the resolve of 'Act East, Act Fast.' He elaborated on how connectivity in Sikkim has been enhanced.


He remarked, "During yesterday's roadshow, the most impressive sight was the cleanliness of Sikkim's roads. There was no trace of litter anywhere... the air was clean... the roads were clean... you, the people of Sikkim, are true guardians of nature and brand ambassadors."


Sikkim: A Paradise of Orchids

PM Modi described Sikkim as a paradise in the east and a garden of orchids, expressing his fortune in experiencing the state's "unmatched beauty, serene environment, and spiritual joy." He encouraged nature-loving tourists to visit Sikkim's orchid gardens.


He added, "Since the BJP government came to power at the center, the pace of development in Sikkim has accelerated once again. For the first time, the railway is set to reach Sikkim."


Inauguration of Major Development Projects

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister unveiled development projects worth over ₹4,000 crores in Sikkim and participated in the closing ceremony of the state's 50th anniversary celebrations. These projects encompass various fields, including infrastructure, connectivity, healthcare, education, electricity, urban development, environment, tourism, and agriculture.
