PM Modi Highlights Role of Art of Living Foundation in Social Change and Environmental Responsibility

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently celebrated the 45th anniversary of the Art of Living Foundation, highlighting its significant contributions to social change and environmental responsibility. During the event, he emphasized the importance of youth empowerment and the need for collective efforts in building a developed India. Modi praised the foundation's initiatives in welfare programs and called for increased participation in environmental conservation. He also underscored the role of spirituality and selfless service in India's diverse culture. The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the foundation will continue to expand its impact and contribute to a better future.
 

Celebrating 45 Years of the Art of Living Foundation

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Art of Living Foundation for its contributions to service, spirituality, and social transformation. He called for collective efforts towards building a developed India through environmental responsibility, youth empowerment, and inner well-being. Modi participated in a ceremony marking the 45th anniversary of the foundation and its founder, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, held at the Art of Living International Center.


He described Bengaluru not only as a global technology hub but also as a city that has elevated India's spiritual and cultural consciousness. During the event, the Prime Minister inaugurated a new meditation center within the expansive campus and congratulated the organization for creating a center for peace and wellness for future generations.


Modi emphasized that the essence of India's vast diversity is selfless service, referencing the country's civilizational values. He noted that historically, spiritual movements in India have expressed themselves through service to humanity.


Promoting Welfare Initiatives

The Prime Minister commended the Art of Living for adopting this principle through welfare programs, including initiatives for tribal empowerment and improving mental health for prisoners. He stated, "Spiritual movements in India emphasize service to humanity." Modi highlighted that societal participation is more effective than political systems and is essential for nation-building.


Using the success of the Swachh Bharat Mission as an example, he remarked, "No government can succeed unless society actively participates in nation-building." He pointed out that this campaign progressed through public involvement.


Modi also underscored India's transformation in the digital age, noting that the country has become a global leader in digital payments and has developed one of the fastest-growing startup ecosystems, primarily driven by the energy of its youth.


Youth Empowerment and Spiritual Wellness

He stated, "India is not only a partner in scientific innovation but also leads in various sectors." Modi acknowledged that organizations like the Art of Living are assisting youth in tackling modern life's challenges. He remarked, "Technology connects people instantly, but it is crucial to connect with oneself, regardless of our connection with the world."


The Prime Minister asserted that a developed India will be built by youth who are mentally calm, socially responsible, and sensitive to society. He highlighted the importance of initiatives related to spiritual wellness, yoga, meditation, and mental health.


Modi encouraged the foundation's volunteers to enhance their involvement in natural farming and environmental conservation.


Environmental Responsibility

He stated, "Today, even in illness, people seek natural remedies. Our Mother Earth also needs natural healing. Chemical fertilizers have weakened our fields and harmed the Earth. Protecting Mother Earth from chemicals is also part of the Art of Living." Modi called for further support for the 'One Tree in the Name of Mother' campaign, emphasizing that environmental conservation cannot be separated from sustainable development.


He remarked, "The environment and the economy cannot be separated." Modi urged volunteers to promote water conservation before the monsoon, raise awareness about saving electricity, discourage single-use plastics, and encourage local products.


Referring to the government's 'Mission Life' initiative, he stated that it symbolizes a conscious and responsible lifestyle in harmony with nature.


A Vision for the Future

He expressed, "In my view, 'Mission Life' is also an expression of the Art of Living." Modi expressed confidence that the Art of Living will continue to expand its social work and strengthen its role as a catalyst for change. He expressed hope that all these goals would be achieved by the time the organization celebrates Ravi Shankar's centenary.
