PM Modi Highlights Mysuru's Cultural Significance and Youth Empowerment

During his visit to Karnataka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that Mysuru has long been a symbol of India's enduring cultural identity, preserving its rich traditions. He inaugurated the 'Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Center - Viveka Smarak,' dedicated to the life and ideals of Swami Vivekananda. Modi remarked that the journey from an individual to a great personality is not instantaneous; it requires enduring numerous challenges, engaging in spiritual practices, and dedicating oneself fully. He noted that while fame may attract many, recognizing true greatness during the trials is often difficult.

 

Modi stated that those who recognize a seeker during their penance also share in their achievements. He highlighted the significant role Mysuru played in Swami Vivekananda's life, recalling that about 130 years ago, the young monk visited the city. At that time, his fame was not as widespread, but his thoughts were profound. Among those who recognized him was the then Maharaja of Mysuru, who received a letter from Vivekananda while he was in America, acknowledging the Maharaja's support.

 

The Prime Minister noted that Swami Vivekananda embodied Indian consciousness and absorbed the scriptures. He quoted Vivekananda's belief that true life is lived for others. Modi praised the Ramakrishna Mission for keeping Vivekananda's legacy alive through educational and health services, as well as disaster relief efforts. He expressed confidence that the Viveka Smaraka would become a spiritual haven for seekers and devotees, emphasizing that serving humanity is akin to serving the divine. He urged the youth to prioritize societal and national interests above personal gains, with a mantra of putting the nation first and dedicating their lives to serving Mother India.

 

Modi remarked that Vivekananda viewed youth education as a cornerstone of nation-building. He observed how countries worldwide were educating their youth, contrasting this with India's colonial past, where young people were shackled by oppression. He noted the remarkable journey of Indian youth from bondage to becoming a driving force in global development. Today, India's economy is among the fastest-growing, largely due to the capabilities of its youth, who have established the country as the third-largest startup ecosystem.

 

Furthermore, Modi pointed out that India has become the world's second-largest mobile phone manufacturer, thanks to the potential of its youth. Indian-made digital solutions are inspiring many nations, and the country is rapidly advancing in semiconductor manufacturing, all due to the strength of its young population. He reiterated that Vivekananda valued both education and equality for national upliftment, advocating for non-discrimination in education and opportunities, which has now become the nation's vision. He stressed the importance of youth health, discipline, and self-confidence, noting that countries that prioritize sports see rapid development of these qualities among their youth. Thus, sports are now viewed as a vital component of nation-building.
