The Hague, May 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi described India as a "land of opportunities" during his address on Saturday, emphasizing the nation's ongoing transformation and its aspirations that extend beyond its borders.
Speaking to the Indian diaspora in The Hague, Modi expressed that the youth of India are aiming high and dreaming big.
He stated, "India's ambitions are no longer confined to its borders. We aspire to host the Olympics, establish ourselves as a global manufacturing hub, lead in green energy, and serve as the world's growth engine," during his speech that lasted over 40 minutes, which was met with enthusiastic applause.
Modi highlighted India's recent achievements, including hosting the world's largest AI Summit and the successful G20 Summit, noting that these events reflect the evolving character of modern India.
He praised the country's vibrant start-up ecosystem, noting that India ranks third globally in terms of start-ups.
Recalling that India had only four unicorns in 2014, he pointed out that the number has surged to nearly 125 today. "Our start-ups are excelling in AI, defense, and space sectors, and the culture of research and innovation is expanding," he remarked.
Drawing a parallel between the Netherlands, known for its tulips, and India, symbolized by the lotus, Modi stated, "Both the tulip and the lotus remind us that regardless of whether roots are in water or soil, beauty and strength can be achieved."
He also mentioned the potential for collaboration between India and the Netherlands on global projects.
Modi reflected on the enduring nature of India's diverse culture, stating, "While many cultures have faded over time, the essence of India's diverse heritage continues to thrive in the hearts of its people. Generations, countries, and environments may change, but family values remain constant."
Modi's visit to the Netherlands marks the second stop on his five-nation tour aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, technology, defense, and renewable energy.
