PM Modi Highlights Cultural Initiatives on Pongal Celebration
Cultural Initiatives Strengthening Unity
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his insights on initiatives like Kashi Tamil Sangamam and Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam during the Pongal festival. He emphasized that these efforts have further reinforced the spirit of 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat'. Modi noted that during his recent visit to Somnath for the Somnath Swabhimaan festival, he received positive feedback from the public regarding these initiatives. In his official post, he mentioned meeting individuals who appreciated the Kashi Tamil Sangamam and Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam efforts.
Through his official blog, he expressed, "Kashi has a profound connection with Tamil people and culture. Baba Vishwanath resides in Kashi, while Rameshwaram is located in Tamil Nadu. The town of Tenkasi in Tamil Nadu is often referred to as the southern Kashi. Saint Kumaraguruparar Swamigal established an unbreakable bond between Kashi and Tamil Nadu through his spirituality, scholarship, and institutional development."
Celebrating Tamil Heritage
He also referenced the great poet Subramania Bharati, highlighting that one of Tamil Nadu's most illustrious sons found a place for intellectual growth and spiritual awakening in Kashi. It was here that his nationalism deepened, his poetry flourished, and his vision for a united, independent India became clear. Numerous examples illustrate this close relationship.
The inaugural edition of Kashi Tamil Sangamam took place in 2022. The Prime Minister recalled attending the opening ceremony, where scholars, artisans, students, farmers, writers, and professionals from Tamil Nadu traveled to Kashi, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya.
Expanding the Initiative's Reach
He explained that subsequent editions have broadened the scope and depth of this initiative. The aim was to continuously incorporate new themes, innovative formats, and deeper engagement, ensuring that the Sangamam evolves while staying true to its core principles. The second edition in 2023 saw extensive use of technology to eliminate language barriers. The third edition focused on Indian knowledge systems, featuring increased participation in academic discussions, cultural presentations, exhibitions, and interactions. Thousands of individuals have participated in these events.
