PM Modi Critiques DMK Government in Tamil Nadu Over Implementation of Central Schemes

In a recent address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the DMK government in Tamil Nadu for hindering the implementation of central government schemes, which he claims has deprived many eligible citizens of their benefits. He highlighted the success of the Mudra scheme in providing loans to youths and women but expressed concern over the lack of proper surveys that prevented many families from accessing the PM Awas Yojana. With elections approaching on April 23, the political landscape is heating up, featuring a contest between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance and the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance. Modi's remarks underscore the significance of these upcoming elections.

Prime Minister's Address to Party Workers

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the DMK government in Tamil Nadu, accusing it of obstructing the implementation of central government initiatives and depriving the public of their benefits. While addressing party booth workers virtually during the 'Mera Booth Sabse Majboot' program, he claimed that the DMK failed to conduct proper surveys, resulting in eligible individuals missing out on benefits from schemes like the PM Awas Yojana and PM Mudra Yojana.

Concerns Over Mudra Scheme

Discussing the Mudra scheme, PM Modi highlighted that millions of youths and small business owners have received loans without any collateral. He noted that a significant number of women have also benefited from this initiative. However, he lamented that due to the DMK government's attitude, many impoverished families could not avail themselves of the PM Awas Yojana. He emphasized that proper surveys were not conducted, and eligible names were omitted, which could have provided permanent housing to millions of families in Tamil Nadu.

Direct Benefit Transfers

The Prime Minister reassured BJP workers that the government has taken measures to eliminate middlemen, ensuring that the benefits of schemes reach the people directly. He elaborated on Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes, stating that financial assistance is transferred directly into beneficiaries' bank accounts. Modi asserted that the goal has been to ensure that the benefits reach farmers without any intermediaries. He mentioned that thousands of crores have been transferred directly to farmers under the PM Kisan scheme, and claims worth thousands of crores have been settled under the crop insurance scheme, with the funds going directly into farmers' accounts.

Upcoming Elections in Tamil Nadu

Elections in Tamil Nadu are scheduled for April 23, with counting set for May 4. The primary contest is expected to be between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) and the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The SPA includes the Indian National Congress, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK). Meanwhile, the NDA is led by AIADMK, which has allies like the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK). Additionally, actor-turned-politician Vijay is set to make his electoral debut with VCK, potentially making the contest a triangular one.
