Modi's Rally in Guwahati

Guwahati, Dec 20: During a rally on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Congress party for its historical neglect of Assam and the Northeast, claiming that the current BJP administration is rectifying the long-standing errors made by the Congress in the region.

While inaugurating a new terminal at Guwahati airport, Modi stated that the Congress party never prioritized the development of Assam and the Northeast.

He accused the Congress of providing shelter to infiltrators who have encroached upon forests and land, thereby jeopardizing Assam's security and identity. Modi emphasized that the BJP government is actively addressing the mistakes made by the Congress over the years.

Modi mentioned that the Election Commission has initiated a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to exclude infiltrators from the electoral process, asserting that 'deshdrohis' (traitors) are attempting to shield them.

He assured that the Central government is implementing stringent measures to curb infiltration. Modi highlighted that development under the BJP's dual-engine government is progressing steadily in Assam, akin to the relentless flow of the Brahmaputra river.

Expressing his deep connection to Assam, Modi stated that it motivates him to foster development in the region. He noted that Assam and the Northeast are pivotal to India's growth, with every state playing a crucial role in the nation's development mission.

Modi pointed out that only three bridges were constructed over the Brahmaputra in the six decades post-Independence, whereas four new bridges have been built in just the last ten years. This improved connectivity, he remarked, is a significant driver of economic growth, mobility, and regional integration in Assam.

Following his speech, the Prime Minister embarked on a grand roadshow starting from outside the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex on National Highway 27. Cultural groups representing various communities performed along the 3.8-km route, as thousands gathered to catch a glimpse of PM Modi.

The roadshow is set to conclude at the state BJP headquarters near Basistha Chariali, where Modi is anticipated to address party members, focusing on the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.

In preparation for PM Modi's visit, the state BJP office in Assam has been elaborately decorated. State BJP chief Dilip Saikia expressed excitement, noting that this marks the first occasion a Prime Minister will visit their state party office.

State BJP spokesperson Dewan Dhruba Jyoti Maral mentioned that approximately 280 party leaders are expected to attend the private meeting, which will include former state party presidents, current and former MPs, ministers, and MLAs.
