PM Modi Criticizes Congress for Neglecting Assam's Development
Modi's Rally in Guwahati
Guwahati, Dec 20: During a rally on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Congress party for its historical neglect of Assam and the Northeast, claiming that the BJP is now rectifying the errors made by the Congress over the years.
While inaugurating a new terminal at Guwahati airport, Modi stated that the Congress party never prioritized the development of Assam and the Northeast.
He accused the Congress of providing shelter to infiltrators who have encroached upon forests and land, thereby jeopardizing Assam's security and identity. Modi emphasized that the BJP government is actively addressing the long-standing issues caused by the Congress in the region.
Modi mentioned that the Election Commission has initiated a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to exclude infiltrators from the electoral process, asserting that 'deshdrohis' (traitors) are attempting to shield them.
He assured that the Centre is implementing stringent measures to curb infiltration, highlighting that development under the BJP's governance is progressing steadily in Assam, akin to the flow of the Brahmaputra river.
Expressing his deep connection to Assam, Modi stated that the region is becoming a crucial gateway for India's overall development, with every state playing a vital role in this mission.
He noted that only three bridges were constructed over the Brahmaputra in the six decades post-Independence, while four new bridges have been built in just the last ten years, significantly enhancing connectivity and fostering economic growth in Assam.
Following his speech, Modi embarked on a grand roadshow starting from outside the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex along National Highway 27. Cultural performances from various communities entertained the thousands who gathered to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister along the 3.8-km route.
The roadshow is set to conclude at the state BJP headquarters near Basistha Chariali, where Modi is expected to address party workers with an eye on the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.
In preparation for Modi's visit, the state BJP office has been beautifully decorated. State BJP chief Dilip Saikia expressed excitement, noting that this is the first occasion a Prime Minister will visit their state party office.
State BJP spokesperson Dewan Dhruba Jyoti Maral mentioned that around 280 party leaders will attend a closed-door meeting, which will include former and current MPs, ministers, and MLAs.
