On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised India's recent accomplishments in sports, particularly highlighting PV Sindhu's remarkable victory at the Japan Open, which he described as a significant achievement and a source of national pride.

Sindhu showcased an impressive performance, securing her first Japan Open title by defeating the local favorite and world No. 3, Akane Yamaguchi, with scores of 21-17, 21-17 in the women's singles final of the BWF Super 750 tournament held last week. This victory not only marked her first Super 750 title but also ended a title drought that lasted over two years, making her the first Indian player to win the esteemed Japan Open.

During the 136th episode of Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi expressed, "Our youth have accomplished numerous remarkable feats in sports recently. PV Sindhu has made history as the first Indian to win the Japan Open title in badminton, and the entire nation takes pride in her success."

Historic Win for Women's Cricket Team

In addition, PM Modi commended the Indian women's cricket team for their historic Test match victory at Lord's earlier this month, calling it a significant moment and a proud chapter in India's sporting narrative. The team achieved a remarkable win against England in a one-off Women's Test, demonstrating their prowess in red-ball cricket.

He remarked, "The Indian Women's Cricket Team has also secured its first Test Match victory at Lord's Stadium in London. This is a historic win."

After a wait of 142 years to host its inaugural Women's Test, the iconic venue celebrated a memorable milestone as India Women triumphed over England Women by a substantial margin of 270 runs.
