PM Modi Assures Fairness in Delimitation Process Amid Political Opposition

Prime Minister Modi's Commitment to Equality in Delimitation

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that the delimitation process will be conducted without any discrimination among states, regardless of their geographical location or size. While elaborating on the delimitation bill, he indicated that those opposing this process are merely seeking political gain. Modi assured that there would be no bias or injustice involved, stating that some individuals are creating disturbances solely for political advantage. During a special parliamentary session focused on the women's reservation and delimitation bills, he expressed his commitment to fairness across all regions.

Furthermore, Modi stated, "I can promise and guarantee; whether you prefer the term guarantee or promise, I will use either. There will be no changes in the proportions established during previous delimitations, and any increases will follow the same ratios. If you seek a guarantee, I provide it; if you want a promise, I give it... because if intentions are clear, there is no need for wordplay."

He also remarked that we should not assume we are granting rights to the women of our nation; rather, these rights are theirs by right. He acknowledged that these rights have been withheld for decades, and now is the time to atone for that past injustice. Modi noted that some perceive his actions as politically motivated, suggesting that opposing the bill could inadvertently benefit him politically. However, he insisted that if everyone cooperates, no one would gain political advantage. He expressed his willingness to publicly thank everyone involved once the bill is passed, stating, "You can take the credit; I am ready to publish your photos at government expense."

Modi highlighted that there are over 650 district councils in the country, with nearly 300 women leading them, bearing responsibilities greater than those of a cabinet minister. He pointed out that among approximately 6,700 block councils, over 2,700 are headed by women. Additionally, he mentioned that more than 900 urban local bodies across cities are led by women. He acknowledged their significant contributions to the nation's progress, stating that this debt of gratitude must be recognized.
