New Delhi: On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the introduction of the Constitution in the Santhali language, calling it a "commendable effort" that will enhance awareness of constitutional rights and encourage democratic engagement.
He expressed pride in the rich Santhali culture and acknowledged the significant contributions of the Santhali community to the nation's development.
Modi shared his thoughts on social media platform X, stating, "A commendable effort! The Constitution in Santhali language will help deepen constitutional awareness and democratic participation."
The release of the Santhali version of the Constitution was officiated by President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday during a ceremony.
Santhali, recognized in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution following the 92nd Amendment Act in 2003, is one of India's oldest living languages.
This language is predominantly spoken by various tribal communities across Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Bihar.
