On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his admiration for Raja Muthupandi's impressive silver medal win in the men's 65kg weightlifting category at the Commonwealth Games, calling it a significant accomplishment for India. He extended his best wishes for Muthupandi's future endeavors.

Muthupandi's remarkable comeback culminated in a silver medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games held on Sunday (local time).

"Another medal for India in Weightlifting! Congratulations to Raja Muthupandi for securing a Silver in the Men's 65 kg event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. His success brings joy and pride to every Indian. Wishing him all the best for his future challenges," PM Modi shared in a post on X.

Congratulatory Messages from Other Leaders

Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress National President, also congratulated Mirabai Chanu for achieving a historic third consecutive gold medal at the Commonwealth Games and Rishikanta Singh for winning a silver medal. He noted that their accomplishments have made the nation proud and serve as an inspiration for young Indians.

The 26-year-old Muthupandi achieved a total lift of 286kg, with 126kg in the snatch and 160kg in the clean and jerk, securing his place on the podium.

Aznil Bin Bidin Muhamed from Malaysia took home the gold medal with a record total of 299kg, marking his third consecutive Commonwealth Games title after victories in Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022.

Mirabai Chanu's Historic Win

On Day 4 of the Commonwealth Games 2026, Olympic medallist Mirabai Chanu led the Indian team by winning her third consecutive gold medal, contributing to a successful outing for India's weightlifters, who collectively earned three medals.
