Criticism of Opposition Parties

The Prime Minister did not hold back in criticizing opposition parties, accusing them of obstructing the bill. He attributed the failure of the legislation to the self-serving politics of various parties, including Congress, TMC, DMK, and SP. Details of the Women's Reservation Bill

The proposed bill aimed to increase the number of Lok Sabha seats from the current 543 to 816 based on the 2011 census, ensuring the implementation of the Women's Reservation Law before the 2029 parliamentary elections. Additionally, it sought to include a 33% reservation for women in the assemblies of states and union territories. To pass this crucial bill, a two-thirds majority was required, but the ruling BJP-led coalition failed to secure the necessary votes. During the voting in the Lok Sabha on Friday night, 298 members supported the bill, while 230 opposed it. Out of 528 members who voted, the bill needed 352 votes for a two-thirds majority.
