Vijayan criticized the BJP government for targeting opposition leaders, while Rahul Gandhi questioned the lack of action against him. As protests erupted outside his home, supporters rallied in defense, showcasing their unity against perceived political attacks. The situation escalated with confrontations between protesters and ED officials, leading to violence. This article delves into the unfolding events and the implications for Kerala's political landscape.

Political Reactions to ED Raids

Pinarayi Vijayan, the former Chief Minister of Kerala and current leader of the opposition, has made a significant statement regarding the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) searches at his residences. He expressed that the ED has long desired to conduct a search at his home, suggesting that this action would bring satisfaction to certain individuals, particularly Rahul Gandhi. Gandhi has previously questioned why no raids were conducted at Vijayan's residence or why he hasn't been arrested. Vijayan criticized the BJP government for allegedly targeting opposition leaders, which has sparked widespread protests across the country.

Vijayan's Stance on ED Actions

Vijayan emphasized that the Congress party believes the ED's interference should continue against parties other than their own. He stated that this is merely the beginning and that such actions will not lead to their downfall. He reassured supporters that he has received unwavering backing from his party during times of attack. The collective sentiment among local supporters and party members was evident, showcasing their strength in unity against challenges.

Details of the ED Raids

According to officials, the ED conducted searches on Wednesday as part of the investigation into the CMRL money laundering case, targeting residences of Vijayan, his son-in-law P.A. Mohammed Riyas, and several others. A total of ten locations across Kerala were raided, including Vijayan's rented accommodation in Thiruvananthapuram. Armed central security personnel were stationed outside the two-story building located at Bakery Junction.

Protests Erupt During Raids

After vacating the Cliff House post-assembly elections, Vijayan moved into this residence. Raids were also reported at Riyas's home in Kozhikode. As news of the ED's actions spread, party workers and leaders began gathering outside the residence, guarded by central armed police forces. Led by state secretary M.V. Govindan, CPM members staged a sit-in protest outside, labeling the ED's actions as politically motivated by the central government.

Escalation of Tensions

As the raids extended into the afternoon, the atmosphere grew increasingly tense. The SFI protest march arrived, intensifying the situation. Demonstrators hurled shoes and water bottles at central police personnel. Violence erupted outside Vijayan's residence as ED officials completed their search and exited the premises. Footage broadcasted on news channels showed suspected CPI(M) supporters gathering outside the rented home to protest against the raids.

Confrontation with ED Officials

The situation escalated further when some protesters obstructed vehicles transporting ED officials, throwing stones at them. Police and central security forces struggled to manage the crowd. During this incident, a vehicle carrying female officers was targeted, resulting in a broken window.
