Despite this setback, Guardiola humorously noted that he now holds the record for the most yellow cards as a manager. Guardiola's Suspension Details

Manchester City’s head coach, Pep Guardiola, is set to miss two domestic matches due to a suspension after receiving his sixth yellow card this season. This incident took place during the FA Cup Fifth Round match against Newcastle United at St. James' Park, where City secured a 3-1 victory.

The caution was issued after Guardiola confronted fourth official Lewis Smith in the 54th minute, following a foul call against Kieran Trippier for his challenge on Jeremy Doku.

Guardiola's Comments on the Situation

In his post-match comments, Guardiola humorously noted that he now holds the record for the most yellow cards as a manager this season. He mentioned that the upcoming suspension would serve as a 'holiday' for him during the next two games.

Impact of the Suspension

As a result of this ban, Guardiola will not be present for Manchester City’s Premier League match against West Ham United on March 14, nor for their FA Cup quarter-final, with the draw and schedule to be announced on Monday. However, he will be eligible to coach during the EFL Cup final against Arsenal on March 22, as suspensions do not apply to domestic finals.

Haaland's Injury Update

Additionally, striker Erling Haaland has been sidelined for the last three matches due to a minor injury sustained during training. Guardiola clarified that he had no intention of using Haaland against Newcastle, opting instead for him to concentrate on training. This decision may pave the way for Haaland's return in the Champions League Round of 16 first leg against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on March 11.

Haaland has been a key player this season, netting 29 goals and providing seven assists in 39 matches across all competitions.
