The Pensioners’ Welfare Association, Bharmour Unit, held its monthly meeting at Chaurasi Hotel, Bharmour, presided over by Unit President Dheeraj Thakur. Pensioners from various localities and association officials participated, voicing significant issues and longstanding requests to the government and local administration.
Key Issues Raised by Pensioners
A primary concern discussed was the lack of a permanent office space for the association. Members recalled that former MLA Jiya Lal Kapoor had promised a dedicated room in the Mini Secretariat, but this commitment has yet to be fulfilled. Pensioners emphasized that having a proper office would facilitate better handling of their grievances.
Another critical topic was the discrepancy in Dearness Allowance (DA). While pensioners from the central government receive 60% DA, those in Himachal Pradesh are still capped at 45%, which members described as unfair. They urged the state government to align with central standards.
Additional Concerns and Future Actions
Other issues discussed included healthcare services, unresolved pension cases, challenges faced by senior citizens in government offices, and social security matters. Speakers highlighted that pensioners, who have dedicated their lives to public service, deserve urgent attention to their concerns.
Association leaders warned that if their demands are not met promptly, they might consider future protest actions, although they currently remain optimistic about resolving issues through dialogue.
Conclusion of the Meeting
The meeting saw participation from Senior Vice President Chain Singh Thakur, General Secretary Kishan Singh, Cashier Makhori Ram, along with numerous members. The session concluded with a united commitment to protect the interests of pensioners and amplify their voices.
