PCB Imposes Heavy Fines on Players After Disappointing World Cup Performance
PCB Takes Strict Action Following World Cup Defeat
Jaipur, March 2, 2026: In the wake of a disappointing performance at the T20 World Cup 2026, particularly after suffering a humiliating 61-run defeat against India in the group stage, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to take stringent measures. Reports indicate that the PCB has imposed a hefty fine of 5 million Pakistani Rupees (PKR), equivalent to approximately 1.6 million Indian Rupees, on each player.
According to sources from various Pakistani media outlets, this decision was made immediately following the loss to India, and the team was informed at that time. The PCB has made it clear that the era of leniency is over. Players will be rewarded for good performances, but they will also face penalties for poor showings. The fines will be deducted from the players' salaries or match fees.
The Pakistan team was eliminated in the Super-8 stage of the T20 World Cup and failed to reach the semifinals. This marks the fourth consecutive ICC event where the Pakistani team has not advanced to the semifinals. The fine applies to the entire team, including captain Salman Ali Agha, Babar Azam, and Shaheen Afridi. However, some reports suggest that standout performers like Sahibzada Farhan may be exempt from the fine, while most players will face this penalty.
Under the leadership of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the board is now emphasizing strict discipline. Further actions, such as changes in captaincy or additional measures against underperforming players, are expected in the coming days.
Pakistani cricket fans and former players are already frustrated with the team's performance. This substantial fine is seen as a significant blow to the players. Whether this action will compel the team to improve or lead to further controversy remains to be seen.
