Pawan Khera Seeks Anticipatory Bail Amid Allegations Against Assam CM's Wife
Legal Action by Congress Leader
Pawan Khera, a prominent Congress leader, has filed a petition for anticipatory bail in the Telangana High Court concerning an FIR lodged by the wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The FIR includes allegations related to holding multiple passports. This complaint has been registered at the Guwahati Crime Branch police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, which encompass false statements during elections, fraud, forgery, defamation, and intentional insult.
Khera's Response to Allegations
In his plea, Khera has requested bail in case of any arrest related to this matter. Additionally, he has made new accusations against Himanta Biswa Sarma and his family regarding overseas properties, asserting that he is a soldier of Rahul Gandhi and will continue to ask questions fearlessly. In a video released by the Congress, Khera emphasized that instead of resorting to insults and police intimidation, Sarma should respond to the questions posed by the Congress.
Details of the Incident
Khera mentioned in the Congress video that the Assam Chief Minister is employing various tactics against him. He reported that around 100 police officers visited his flat recently and confiscated his electronic devices. He claimed that the police are being dispatched wherever they suspect he might be. Khera questioned why the Congress and he are being silenced when they are merely raising questions. He stated, 'Your habit may be to intimidate, but we do not fear.' He also referenced a controversial remark made by Sarma about Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, highlighting that Kharge's political experience surpasses Sarma's age.
Ongoing Investigations
Reports indicate that Assam police officials traveled to Hyderabad in search of Khera as part of their investigation. Khera has alleged that Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, the wife of the Assam Chief Minister, possesses three passports. Khera serves as the head of the media and publicity department for the Congress party and is also a member of the Congress Working Committee. The FIR mentions various offenses under sections 175, 35, 36, 318, 337, 338, 340, 352, and 356 of the Indian Penal Code, including false statements related to elections, fraud, forgery of important documents, and intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of peace.
