New Delhi: A power bank belonging to a passenger ignited while the IndiGo aircraft was parked at Chandigarh airport on Tuesday, prompting an immediate evacuation of everyone on board, as reported by sources.
According to the airline's statement, the incident occurred after IndiGo flight 6E 108, which had arrived from Hyderabad, had come to a stop on the tarmac. A customer's electronic device was noted to have caught fire.
The airline emphasized that for safety reasons, an urgent evacuation was executed, and all relevant authorities were notified promptly. Passengers were safely relocated to the terminal, where the airline's team provided assistance to ensure their well-being.
Witnesses indicated that smoke was observed emanating from one of the overhead compartments shortly after landing, leading to the swift evacuation of all individuals on the flight.
The smoke was attributed to the power bank fire, and fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.
