Ongoing Disruptions in Parliament

On Thursday, the fourth day of the monsoon session, discussions regarding the NEET paper leak and the call for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan dominated the agenda in both houses of Parliament. Amidst persistent protests from the opposition, the proceedings in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha had to be repeatedly adjourned, resulting in the houses being suspended for the entire day without any business being conducted. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju accused the opposition of evading the debate on the NEET paper leak and imposing "preconditions".

Lok Sabha Proceedings

The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day after two suspensions due to uproar from opposition members protesting against police action on students demonstrating in the capital regarding the NEET paper leak and demanding the resignation of Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The government accused the opposition of setting preconditions to avoid discussing the NEET paper leak, asserting that it was ready for an immediate debate and urging the opposition to commence discussions without delay.

As the session began, opposition members raised various issues, including police actions against students protesting the NEET paper leak. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla appealed to them to allow question hour to proceed, assuring that they would have the opportunity to voice their concerns after the question hour concluded. Not seeing any reduction in the uproar, Birla adjourned the session until noon. When the session resumed at 2 PM, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju reiterated the call for an immediate discussion on the NEET paper leak.

Rajya Sabha Proceedings

In the Rajya Sabha, the demand for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan by Congress and other opposition parties led to disruptions for the fourth consecutive day, resulting in three adjournments and the session being suspended for the day. Due to the chaos, zero hour and question hour could not take place in the upper house. Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge began reciting poetic lines from a written text, stating that the opposition would face every challenge in the national interest. However, Deputy Chairman Harivansh did not allow him to continue, stating that the opposition leader was only given the opportunity to speak to resolve the deadlock and initiate discussions on the NEET paper leak, which the government had already agreed to.
