Para Armwrestling Gains International Recognition
The People's Armwrestling Federation India (PAFI) and the Pro Panja League are thrilled to announce that Para Armwrestling has successfully fulfilled the global participation criteria established by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) for the Brisbane 2032 Paralympic Games. This confirmation comes from the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF), which reported that the sport now boasts participation from over 32 countries, surpassing the necessary threshold for inclusion.
Positive Impact on India's Paralympic Aspirations
This achievement is viewed as a significant enhancement to India's chances of securing medals in upcoming Paralympic events, especially given the country's expanding talent pool in Para Armwrestling.
Fostering Para Armwrestling Talent in India
In recent years, PAFI and the Pro Panja League have been dedicated to establishing a professional environment for Para Athletes. They have introduced specific Para Armwrestling categories in both seasons of the Pro Panja League and during Mega Matches held across various regions in India. These efforts have led to the discovery of numerous skilled Para Armwrestlers, such as Chandan Kumar Behera, Butta Singh, Srinivas BV, Mohan Sharma, and Arvind Rajak, providing them with a platform to showcase their abilities nationally.
Community Leaders Celebrate the Achievement
Parvinn Dabass, Co-Founder of the Pro Panja League, expressed, "This is a pivotal moment not only for armwrestling globally but particularly for India. We have witnessed remarkable talent in the Para category through our league and Mega Matches nationwide. From the outset, we believed that Para Armwrestling deserved equal recognition and opportunities, which is why we included it in every league season. Should Para Armwrestling be included in the Brisbane 2032 Paralympics, India stands a strong chance of winning several medals."
Preeti Jhangiani, President of PAFI and Vice President of the Asian Armwrestling Federation (AAF), added, "India has always been a nurturing ground for exceptional Para sporting talent, and arm wrestling is no exception. The enthusiasm we have received from Para athletes across the country has been overwhelmingly positive. This acknowledgment from the IPC highlights the sport's global growth and inspires us to create more opportunities for Para armwrestlers in India. We are optimistic that with adequate support and exposure, Indian athletes can emerge as champions on the world stage."
