Fuel Frenzy in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow/Jaipur, March 6, 2026: The ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, along with rising tensions in the Middle East, has sparked panic among residents in several districts of Uttar Pradesh, leading to rumors of a fuel shortage. Long queues have formed at petrol stations in Lakhimpur Kheri, Barabanki, Rampur, and surrounding areas since morning, with people filling not only their vehicles but also large containers, gallons, drums, and even plastic bottles with fuel.

Social media and WhatsApp have been rife with claims that the war could disrupt crude oil supplies, potentially causing petrol and diesel prices to soar or availability to dwindle. This fear has led to a surge in panic buying, resulting in overwhelming crowds at some petrol stations.

However, officials from oil marketing companies and local administrations have reassured the public that there is no shortage of petrol or diesel in the country. They confirmed that stock levels are adequate and supply is running smoothly. An official from Lakhimpur Kheri stated, "This is entirely based on rumors. Our depots have sufficient stock, and there are no disruptions. People are unnecessarily buying excessive fuel out of panic, creating an artificial shortage situation."

Authorities have urged citizens to remain calm and purchase fuel only as per their regular needs. Hoarding fuel is not only dangerous for safety (storing large containers at home increases the risk of fire) but can also inconvenience others.

Experts indicate that while there may be fluctuations in global crude oil prices, there will not be any immediate significant impact in India. The government and oil marketing companies are monitoring the situation and will take necessary actions if required. Currently, petrol and diesel prices remain stable.

Residents are advised: ignore the rumors, maintain calm, and avoid unnecessary crowds at petrol stations. The situation is fully under control!
