Introduction of the Army Rocket Force

In a significant development, Pakistan has announced the establishment of a new military unit known as the Army Rocket Force, aimed at enhancing its combat capabilities with cutting-edge technology. This announcement was made by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during a ceremony held to celebrate the 79th Independence Day and to reflect on a recent four-day military engagement with India.

Prime Minister Sharif emphasized that this initiative marks a crucial step in bolstering the nation's military response capabilities. However, he did not disclose specific details regarding the new force or its operational duties.

The formation of this force appears to be influenced by China's People’s Liberation Army Rocket Force, which manages a diverse range of ballistic, hypersonic, and cruise missiles, including both nuclear and conventional types.

The event was attended by President Asif Ali Zardari, military leaders, and various national and international dignitaries.

Sharif characterized the military engagement with India in May as a significant triumph, attributing Pakistan's nuclear capabilities as essential for countering India's nuclear arsenal.

He claimed that within just four days, India’s confidence was significantly undermined.

The Prime Minister expressed appreciation to former US President Donald Trump for facilitating a ceasefire between the two nations and reiterated that the Kashmir dispute should be addressed in line with United Nations resolutions.

India initiated Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir as a response to an attack that resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians on April 22.

Following four days of intense military exchanges, India and Pakistan reached an agreement on May 10 to cease hostilities.

India has consistently stated that this agreement was achieved through direct communication between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) from both sides.

In his speech, Prime Minister Sharif also thanked allied nations, including China, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Azerbaijan, the UAE, and Iran, for their support during the conflict with India.

He called for unity among political parties, stakeholders, and civil society to protect national interests.

Sharif described the proposed charter as not just an economic recovery plan but a broader framework focused on national interests.

He highlighted Pakistan's significant sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, noting the loss of 90,000 lives and over $150 billion in economic damages.

Additionally, he pointed out the economic achievements of his administration, stating that inflation has decreased from 34% to 5%, and interest rates have dropped from 21% to 11%.
