Islamabad: On Saturday, Pakistan confirmed the successful training launch of its Abdali Weapon System, a surface-to-surface missile capable of reaching distances of 450 kilometers. This event comes at a time of increased tensions with India following a recent terror incident in Pahalgam.
According to a statement from the military, the purpose of the launch was to ensure troop readiness and to validate critical technical specifications, including the missile's sophisticated navigation system and improved maneuverability.
The military indicated that this missile test was part of 'Exercise INDUS,' although further details about the exercise were not disclosed.
The launch was observed by the Commander of the Army Strategic Forces Command, along with senior officials from the Strategic Plans Division, and scientists and engineers from Pakistan's strategic organizations.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and military leaders congratulated the troops, scientists, and engineers involved, expressing their full confidence in the operational readiness and technical capabilities of Pakistan's Strategic Forces to maintain credible deterrence and protect national security against potential threats.
