Pakistan to Host SCO National Coordinators Meeting

Islamabad: Pakistan is set to host a three-day gathering of national coordinators from the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) starting Monday, as part of its preparations for the upcoming Council of Heads of State summit scheduled for August 2027.

This meeting, taking place from September 28 to 30, signifies a crucial first step under Pakistan's leadership of the SCO Council of Heads of State for the 2026-27 term, aimed at coordinating future high-level meetings and activities.

As per a statement from the Foreign Office on X, the National Coordinator of Pakistan will preside over the SCO meeting, which will convene national coordinators from member nations along with representatives from the SCO Secretariat.

The agenda will cover a "broad spectrum of topics related to SCO collaboration and coordination," including the "program of activities during Pakistan's Chairmanship," preparations for forthcoming SCO events, and other relevant issues, according to the Foreign Office.

During its chairmanship, Pakistan aims to promote the organization's goals under the theme "Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation and Shared Prosperity," as stated by the Foreign Office.

The focus will be on enhancing connectivity, fostering innovation, boosting economic collaboration, and strengthening interpersonal ties among member states.

The objective is to convert the collective vision of Member States into actionable and mutually advantageous initiatives.

Pakistan intends to collaborate closely with all Member States and the SCO Secretariat to push these priorities forward and enhance cooperation within the SCO.

This meeting will serve as an early platform for coordination among member nations as Pakistan embarks on its activities as chair of the SCO Council of Heads of State.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited Bishkek for a three-day official trip to participate in the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting and the SCO Plus Summit, where Pakistan took over the chairmanship for 2026-27.

Under its leadership, Pakistan will guide the SCO's high-level discussions and host the organization's summit in 2027.
