Pakistan Army Considers Relocating Headquarters After Indian Strikes

In light of recent Indian airstrikes that severely damaged the Nur Khan Air Base, the Pakistan Army is reportedly considering relocating its General Headquarters from Chaklala, Rawalpindi, to Islamabad. This move is driven by heightened security concerns regarding the current location. Satellite images confirm significant damage at the airbase, prompting the Army to reassess its strategic positioning. Additionally, Army Chief General Asim Munir has been moved to a fortified bunker as a precaution against further attacks. The potential new headquarters may be established in regions with natural defenses, such as Balochistan or Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Potential Relocation of GHQ

In the wake of significant damage inflicted on Pakistan's Nur Khan Air Base by Indian airstrikes, the Pakistan Army is reportedly contemplating moving its General Headquarters (GHQ) from Chaklala, Rawalpindi, to Islamabad. Various reports suggest that the relocation process has already commenced, driven by escalating security concerns regarding the current GHQ site.

Strategic Importance of Nur Khan Airbase

Located merely 10 kilometers from Islamabad, Nur Khan Airbase serves as a crucial military installation for Pakistan. Adjacent to the GHQ, it accommodates essential transport aircraft, surveillance systems, and refueling units. Following the precision strikes by the Indian Air Force on May 10, the Pakistan Army and ISI are now actively considering options for relocating their headquarters.

Damage Assessment via Satellite Imagery

Recent satellite imagery has revealed that at least two military transport vehicles sustained damage at the airbase. Images from MIZAZVISION, a Chinese company, and India's Kawa Space indicate extensive destruction, including ruined fuel trucks and a damaged warehouse roof, with debris scattered near the runway.

Increased Security Measures for Army Leadership

In response to the attack, reports confirm that Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir has been relocated to a secure bunker within the GHQ. This decision was made amid fears of further strikes from India. The potential new site for the GHQ is being considered in regions like Balochistan or Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which offer natural defensive advantages due to their mountainous terrain.
