Outrage Erupts Over Disturbing Video of Harassment in Bihar: Police Take Action

Police Response to Viral Harassment Incident

In Jamui district, Bihar, authorities have detained three individuals in connection with the harassment of a boy and a girl, an incident captured in a video that has sparked widespread outrage online. The incident occurred on the evening of September 19, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by a female officer, is actively pursuing additional suspects.

According to Jamui Superintendent of Police Bishwajeet Dayal, no formal complaint was filed by the victims until the video gained traction on social media. Utilizing the vehicle's registration number visible in the footage, police were able to locate the victims.

An SIT, under the leadership of Sub-Divisional Police Officer Deepti Monali, has been established. Although the victims did not name the suspects in their FIR at the Jamui police station, authorities have identified approximately seven individuals involved, with three already arrested and efforts underway to apprehend the others.

The FIR has been registered under the POCSO Act and relevant sections of the BNS, with measures initiated to remove the video from circulation, as stated by the SP.

The victims, who are friends and attend the same coaching center, have had their privacy respected, with the police withholding further details.

The video, which allegedly depicts the harassment, has drawn significant criticism from both social media users and political figures.

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, labeled the incident as 'deeply disturbing' in a post on X, asserting that it reflects a culture of patriarchy rather than civility. He called for the individuals identified in the video to be prosecuted under the POCSO Act and questioned the safety of women in public spaces under the BJP-led government.

The Aam Aadmi Party also shared the video on social media, reminding Prime Minister Narendra Modi of his 'beti bachao' campaign and accusing the Bihar government of failing to protect women's dignity.

Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD working president and Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, criticized Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, indirectly referring to him as 'inept', and held Prime Minister Modi accountable for the prevailing chaos in Bihar.

In contrast, BJP spokesperson Neeraj Kumar Sharma praised the Bihar Police for their swift action in initiating the investigation without waiting for a formal complaint.

The Trinamool Congress condemned the incident, questioning the right of individuals to impose their will on others without consent and emphasizing the need for accountability and justice for the victims.
