Opposition Protests in Uttar Pradesh Assembly Over Allegations Against BJP Government

Protests Erupt in Uttar Pradesh Assembly

Lucknow, August 4 - Members of the Samajwadi Party (SP), the main opposition party, staged a protest in the assembly complex on the second day of the monsoon session on Tuesday. They raised slogans against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government regarding alleged donations misappropriated at the Ram Temple, question paper leaks, and other issues.

Senior SP leader and former minister Shivpal Singh Yadav addressed reporters, claiming that the government is presenting a supplementary budget to cover up its failures, despite not having utilized 30 percent of the original budget. He stated, “This is a government of donation thieves, offering thieves, and budget thieves.”

Yadav further criticized the government for bringing forth a budget to hide its incompetence while facilitating the theft of the entire budget. He expressed that the public has lost hope in a party that raises questions about donations to the Ram Temple. He accused the government of failing to take action against the main accused in the alleged donation theft case, suggesting that the government itself is complicit in the misappropriation.

He also claimed that the BJP's defeat in the by-elections for the Bankipur seat in Bihar and the Datia seat in Madhya Pradesh signals its impending loss in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. Yadav asserted that the SP would ensure the BJP's 'cleansing' in the upcoming elections.

Earlier, Yadav posted on social media, stating, “A government that has failed to spend 30 to 50 percent of its original budget is now trying to hide its incompetence under the guise of a supplementary budget.” He questioned how the public could trust the state's treasury when accountability has not been established regarding the issues raised about donations in the presence of Lord Ram.

SP members had also protested against the government on the first day of the monsoon session on Monday. The Uttar Pradesh government is set to present the first supplementary budget for the financial year 2026-27 in the assembly on Tuesday.

The monsoon session is scheduled to conclude on August 6.
