Opposition Protests Disrupt Parliament's Winter Session Amid Key Legislative Discussions
Parliament's Winter Session Faces Opposition Challenges
Today marks the second day of the winter session in Parliament, where the government is expected to introduce several significant bills. However, the opposition continues to create a ruckus over the Special Intensive Review (SIR) in both houses. Following the opposition's demands for a discussion on SIR, the proceedings in the Rajya Sabha were suspended until 2 PM. Similarly, the Lok Sabha's session was also adjourned until 2 PM.
As the Lok Sabha session commenced at 11 AM, opposition members chanted slogans against the central government, calling it 'vote thieves, leave the chair,' while insisting on a discussion regarding the ongoing SIR. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urged members to maintain decorum, stating that the entire nation is observing the opposition's actions. He emphasized the importance of question hour and requested members to allow it to proceed, noting that their protests were not in the interest of Parliament or the country.
The opposition's uproar continued into the second day of the session. The previous day's proceedings had also faced multiple adjournments, with legislative work conducted for less than an hour throughout the day. Despite the loud protests, ministers continued to respond to questions during question hour. Central Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh (also known as Lalan Singh) provided insights regarding funds allocated under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and the Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF) related to West Bengal.
The minister informed the house that for India to develop, the progress of every state is essential. He highlighted that without the development of each state, achieving this goal would be impossible. Keeping this in mind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched PMMSY to revolutionize the fisheries sector across the country. Unfortunately, West Bengal has not supported this initiative. The winter session of Parliament has faced disruptions for the second consecutive day, having commenced on December 1 and scheduled to conclude on December 19.
