Key Meeting of Opposition Leaders
Top leaders from the opposition India alliance gathered at the Constitution Club to address emerging differences among its member parties. The meeting has now concluded. Notable attendees included Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge from Congress, Mamata Banerjee from the Trinamool Congress, Akhilesh Yadav from the Samajwadi Party, Tejashwi Yadav from RJD, Omar Abdullah from the National Conference, and Mehbooba Mufti from PDP, along with several leftist leaders.
Call for All-Party Meeting
Following the India bloc meeting, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge urged the central government to convene an all-party meeting immediately to discuss pressing issues such as the fragile economic situation, unemployment, inflation, and farmers' concerns. It was agreed that all parties would meet every two months, with daily morning meetings for opposition leaders during the parliamentary monsoon session.
Virtual Participation and Future Plans
Kharge mentioned that Uddhav Thackeray and Hemant Soren also participated virtually and shared their views, expressing agreement on the discussed issues. The consensus was reached that the India alliance parties would convene every two months, with the next meeting scheduled for August in Hyderabad. Additionally, they agreed to write to the Chief Justice regarding issues of SIR, 'vote theft,' and 'fraud' in elections.
Demand for Resignation of Education Minister
Kharge emphasized the unanimous agreement to demand the immediate resignation of the central education minister for betraying millions of youth. He reiterated the need for an all-party meeting to address the unstable economy, unemployment, inflation, and farmers' issues. He confirmed that meetings among the India alliance leaders would continue for smooth coordination during the monsoon session.
Unity on Key Issues
Kharge noted that leaders from the India alliance have agreed to meet every two months, with the next gathering set for Hyderabad in August. Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition in the Bihar Assembly, stated that consensus has been reached on five key issues, and they are united in raising these concerns. He asserted that if elections are conducted through ballots, the BJP would have no chance.
