Rajya Sabha Session Adjourned Amid Opposition Protests

The Rajya Sabha session was suspended until noon on Tuesday due to uproar from opposition MPs demanding a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the alleged theft of donations at the Ram Temple and police actions against protesting students. Led by the Congress party, opposition members raised concerns about the purported theft of cash and valuables contributed by devotees at the temple, which was met with strong resistance from ruling party members. Following a heated exchange of accusations between both sides, Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan decided to adjourn the proceedings until noon.

As the session commenced, Chairman Radhakrishnan introduced necessary documents and announced the start of Zero Hour. During this time, opposition members began insisting on a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah concerning the theft of Ram Temple donations and the police's response to student protests. Some members demanded that the Leader of the Opposition be allowed to speak.

The Chairman indicated he would permit the Leader of the Opposition to address the house, provided the opposition members maintained decorum. He then called upon Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of the Opposition, to present his remarks. Kharge accused certain members of the trust established by the government for the construction and management of the Ram Temple of alleged theft of donations, questioning why investigative agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) were not probing these allegations against the members of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust (SRJBTK).

Kharge pointed out that the trust was formed by the government and was allocated 70 acres of land. Before he could finish, the Chairman allowed Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju to speak. Rijiju stated that the issue the opposition was repeatedly trying to raise should not be permitted in the house.

He accused the Congress and the Samajwadi Party of staging a 'drama' outside the house regarding this matter. Meanwhile, DMK member Tiruchi Shiva attempted to raise the issue of the detention of Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, but the Chairman ruled that it was a state matter and not suitable for discussion in Parliament. Kharge reiterated the demand for an investigation into the alleged theft of donations and the government's response, emphasizing that this issue is tied to the faith of millions.

Rijiju claimed that the Congress and the Samajwadi Party have consistently 'disrespected Lord Ram' and opposed the construction of the Ram Temple. He accused these parties of now creating a spectacle over the 'donation theft' issue. He labeled the opposition parties as 'opponents of Lord Ram' and stated that MPs who wore black bands in protest against the temple's construction should first apologize.

Opposition members strongly protested Rijiju's remarks. Following this, members from both the ruling and opposition parties gathered at the front of the house, leading to a fierce exchange and chanting. Amid the chaos, the Chairman adjourned the session until noon.
