Opposition Disrupts Lok Sabha Over Voter List Review in Bihar

On Friday, the Lok Sabha faced significant disruption as opposition members protested against the Special Intensive Review of the voter list in Bihar. The uproar led to the suspension of proceedings shortly after they began. Speaker Om Birla attempted to maintain order by urging members to respect the question hour, which is vital for accountability. Despite his appeals, the opposition's demands for discussion on the issue continued, resulting in an adjournment until 2 PM. This incident highlights ongoing tensions in the parliamentary session, which began on July 21, with limited question hour days so far.

Disruption in Lok Sabha Over Voter List Issues

On Friday, members of opposition parties created a ruckus in the Lok Sabha regarding the ongoing Special Intensive Review (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar. This commotion led to the suspension of the house proceedings just three minutes after they began, lasting until 2 PM.

As the session commenced, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla initiated the question hour. However, opposition members quickly demanded a discussion on the SIR issue.

The Speaker urged the members to remain seated, emphasizing, 'It is crucial to maintain the dignity of the house. The question hour is a significant time.'

Expressing disappointment over the members' shouting and display of placards, Birla stated that opposition members cannot deprive others of their right to ask questions during this time and hold the government accountable.

He remarked that such behavior is inappropriate and unacceptable. With the uproar continuing, he adjourned the house proceedings at 11:03 AM until 2 PM.

The monsoon session of Parliament commenced on July 21, and only two days of question hour have occurred in the lower house, specifically on the previous Tuesday and Wednesday.
