Opposition's Stance Ahead of Parliament's Monsoon Session

Sudhakar Singh, a Member of Parliament from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has announced that the 'India' alliance will confront the central government over significant issues such as the donations to the Ram Temple and the NEET paper leak during the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. This session is scheduled to commence on July 20 and will continue until August 13.

Representing Buxar in Bihar, Singh accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of employing a political strategy aimed at undermining opposition parties to secure the necessary numbers for advancing its legislative agenda. He stated that the BJP aims to achieve a two-thirds majority in Parliament by fracturing opposition parties, but the 'India' alliance will robustly oppose these efforts.

According to Singh, the opposition will prioritize every critical issue in Parliament, including the theft of donations for the Ram Temple, the paper leak scandal, unemployment, corruption, and the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of voter lists. He expressed concern over recent reports and speculations regarding opposition MPs switching sides, labeling it a significant worry for the entire 'India' alliance.

The RJD leader claimed that while party-switching used to fall under the purview of anti-defection laws, it now appears that rules and safeguards are being blatantly ignored. He asserted that the ruling party lacks sufficient numbers on its own, prompting it to focus on weakening its opposition, which has raised alarms across the opposition spectrum. He described these maneuvers as part of a larger conspiracy to undermine the Constitution.

Singh emphasized that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will revolve around the theme of protecting the Constitution. He pointed out that the BJP's recent actions and new laws clearly indicate an attempt to weaken constitutional integrity. He questioned the Election Commission's SIR process, labeling it an assault on citizens' voting rights, warning that if genuine voters' names are removed from the voter list, governments could be changed through voter lists instead of ballots.

The RJD MP made it clear that the opposition will vehemently oppose measures like 'One Nation, One Election' and delimitation in Parliament, as these threaten democratic rights. Additionally, he characterized the NEET paper leak as a 'national crisis' and expressed full support for the ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar led by climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and the Cockroach People's Party.
