Opposition Alliance 'INDIA' Gears Up for Key Meeting in Delhi

The opposition coalition 'INDIA' is gearing up for a pivotal meeting in Delhi, with 23 political parties confirming their attendance. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has voiced concerns over the Modi government's policies, accusing it of undermining the Constitution. Notably, key leaders like MK Stalin and Arvind Kejriwal will not attend, reflecting strained relations within the opposition. The meeting, called at the request of Mamata Banerjee, will take place at the Constitution Club, marking a shift from previous gatherings at leaders' homes. As Banerjee focuses on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the need for Congress support becomes increasingly critical.

Significant Meeting Scheduled for Opposition Alliance

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh announced on social media that the opposition coalition 'INDIA' is set to hold an important meeting at the Constitution Club in Delhi, with 23 political parties confirming their participation.

Concerns Over Government Policies

Ramesh noted that while some parties are unable to attend for personal reasons, they strongly oppose the policies and actions of the Modi government. He accused the administration of consistently undermining the Constitution and misusing investigative agencies to target opposition leaders. He also criticized the government for rising inflation, unemployment, and a lack of investment, stating, "Like India itself, the INDIA coalition is united in its diversity."

Key Leaders Opt Out of Meeting

Notable absentees from this meeting include prominent figures such as MK Stalin from Tamil Nadu's DMK and Arvind Kejriwal from Delhi's Aam Aadmi Party.

Strained Relations Between DMK and Congress

Following significant political shifts in Tamil Nadu, the relationship between the DMK and Congress has deteriorated. The Congress party has allied with actor-turned-politician Vijay's TVK, prompting the DMK to sever ties with Congress entirely. The situation has escalated to the point where the DMK requested separate seating from Congress in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, which has been granted.

Meeting Venue Shifted to Neutral Ground

This time, the 'INDIA' coalition meeting will take place at the neutral venue of the Constitution Club, rather than at the residences of Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, as seen in the previous two meetings.

Mamata Banerjee's Influence on Meeting

The meeting has been convened at the request of former West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee, who, along with her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, will be in attendance. Political analysts believe that Banerjee requires the strong support of the 'INDIA' coalition, particularly Congress, to effectively challenge the BJP in Bengal.

Focus on Lok Sabha Elections

Sources indicate that Mamata Banerjee is currently uninterested in the upcoming assembly by-elections in West Bengal, despite contests in Nandigram and Rejinagar. There are speculations that she aims to contest in the Lok Sabha elections, particularly for the Bhashirhat seat, which has become vacant following the death of Haji Nurul Islam.

Need for Congress Support

Bashirhat is a Muslim-majority area where the minority population exceeds 55 percent. Banerjee will require significant support from Congress to secure this seat. She cannot openly seek assistance from leftist parties, which may lead her to request help from Congress. However, there are rumors that some TMC legislators are in contact with Congress, but Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi have decided against engaging with them.
