Open Letter Critiques Disruptions at AI Summit
Concerns Raised Over AI Summit Disturbances
Shimla
Shrey Awasthi, the BJP's Social Media Co-Convenor in Himachal Pradesh and an alumnus of Arni University, has penned a poignant open letter to Uday Bhanu Chib, the Chief of the Indian Youth Congress, expressing his dismay over the disruptions that occurred during the recent AI Summit.
Awasthi clarified that his letter was not directed at the President of the Indian Youth Congress but rather to a mentor he admired during his BTech studies from 2009 to 2013. He noted, “Under his mentorship in 2011, I learned the values of discipline and progressive thought. Therefore, the events at the AI Summit were particularly troubling for me.”
He criticized the protests at such a significant international event, labeling them as “misguided and harmful to India's global standing.” Awasthi questioned the rationale behind Youth Congress leaders choosing a global platform, attended by international delegates and media, for their demonstrations. “While democratic protest is a fundamental right, the timing and venue are crucial. An international AI forum should highlight India's innovation and the potential of its youth, not internal political strife,” he remarked.
Awasthi also expressed his disapproval of derogatory terms like “compromised Prime Minister” used during the protests. He stated, “While political differences are normal, undermining the dignity of the Prime Minister on an international stage sends a negative message about India.”
He underscored that Artificial Intelligence symbolizes opportunities, innovation, and job creation for the youth of India. “AI is not a threat; it represents the future. When young leaders oppose such initiatives without offering constructive alternatives, it creates confusion and discouragement among aspiring youth,” Awasthi added.
Maintaining respect for his former mentor, Awasthi stated, “I still regard him as my senior and role model. This is why my letter carries emotional weight. I did not anticipate such behavior from someone who once instilled in us the values of discipline, ethics, and progressive work.”
In closing, Awasthi urged Chib to reflect and prioritize national interests over party politics. “While opposition is essential, it should never compromise India's reputation on the global stage,” he concluded.
The letter has ignited political discourse, emphasizing the ongoing debate regarding the balance between democratic expression and national representation at international events.
