Violence Continues in Manipur

The cycle of violence in Manipur shows no signs of abating. On Saturday, suspected militants ambushed a convoy of civilian vehicles in Ukhrul district. This incident occurred near the TM Kasom village in the Litang police station area. Tragically, two individuals were shot dead during the attack. The deceased have been identified as Chinaoshang Shokwungnao, a retired military personnel from Tashar village, and Yaruingam Washum from Kharasom village. Additionally, three vehicles in the convoy sustained significant damage.


Chief Minister Orders NIA Investigation

Chief Minister W. Khemchand Singh condemned the incident, labeling it as extremely tragic. He announced that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) will now take over the investigation. The Chief Minister also expressed condolences to the victims' families and promised financial assistance. Currently, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam and the Chief Minister are closely monitoring the situation, while security forces have initiated a search operation in the area to apprehend the attackers.


Rising Tensions Among Communities

Following this unfortunate event, a blame game has erupted between various groups. The Tangkhul Naga Long executive committee has held the Kuki groups responsible for the attack and has strongly condemned the incident. Conversely, the Kuki Council has completely denied any involvement of their community in these killings. The government has urged all communities to maintain peace to prevent further escalation of tensions.
