In Rajasthan, the indefinite strike by private bus operators persists, leading to significant inconvenience for travelers. Tensions escalated in the Durgapura area of Jaipur, where striking and non-striking operators confronted each other.

Key Incident: Dispute in Durgapura

At the Durgapura bus stand, some operators attempted to run buses despite the strike. The striking union intervened, resulting in scuffles and clashes. Numerous passengers were forcibly removed from buses, causing widespread distress throughout the day. This conflict prominently highlighted the rift between suburban route operators and state carriage bus operators.

Reasons Behind the Strike and Its Impact

Private bus operators are protesting against forced penalties, excessive tax collection, stringent safety checks, fines, and bus seizures. Approximately 30,000 to 35,000 private buses, including sleeper coaches, state carriage, and local transport, are currently off the roads across the state.

This strike is affecting the daily commute of around 1.5 to 2.5 million passengers, with the most significant impact felt in districts like Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ajmer, Sikar, and Jhunjhunu.

Bus services have come to a halt at stands like Sindhi Camp and Transport Nagar, leaving passengers stranded for hours. In some areas, taxi and private vehicle fares have surged two to three times, particularly for those traveling to Khatu Shyamji.

Roadway buses are under increased pressure, yet they are not operating at full capacity. The government has requested police assistance to ensure that running buses are not obstructed.
